Coral Gables Venetian Pool: a modern paradise

From the moment you step through the pool's entrance, you'll know this is no ordinary pool. You won't be overwhelmed by a chlorine smell — you'll be magically entranced by the waterfalls and rocks extending into the glittering water.

The pool is surrounded by lush greenery, palm trees and flowers. It might be hard to find in Coral Gables — the city's street signs are placed on the ground on white rocks. Take your time and be patient, because this trip is worth it.

George Merrick, a Dade County commissioner in the 1920s, designed the Venetian Pool along with his uncle (and artist) Denman Fink and architect Phineas Paist. Before 1924, the land was a rock quarry, and shortly after it was transformed into a beautiful landmark of Coral Gables.

The Venetian Pool is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The more than 800,000 gallons of water in the Venetian Pool are drained nightly and, via a natural ground filtration, replenished through the aquifer.

The Venetian Pool is a place for families, teenagers, young adults, and seniors. The fresh spring water calls to something in us all.

Since swimming can cause quite an appetite, the seasonal concession stand offers sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, burgers, chicken tenders, nachos, mozzarella sticks, fountain drinks, water, sports drinks, ice cream, and more.

Special Programs at the pool include swim lessons for children and adults, lifeguard training sessions, and Scuba Diving certification courses.

Children under 3 years are not allowed into the premises. Children must be at least 38" tall or parents must provide a birth certificate for entry. Coral Gables residents receive a discounted entry price. No coolers, glass or alcohol allowed.

Hours vary by day and season. Check the website for details. Coral Gables residents with proof of residency receive discounted admission to the pool.

The Venetian Pool can host your wedding, rehearsal dinner, birthday party or holiday party. For pricing and availability, phone the park and ask for the Venetian Pool staff.
