Crazy Pianos: Dueling keys are sure to please
Professional musicians pound the keys every night at this dueling piano bar in Coconut Grove. Shows are 8 p.m.-3 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 p.m.-3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Each show features two pianists and a drummer who can play just about anything. (Don't believe me? Then see if you can stump them.) Show tunes, oldies, new R&B and pop hits — no genre is missed at Crazy Pianos.
Performers are multi-lingual, so you can even request songs in other languages (ah, the perks of Miami-living).
Turn over your napkin at Crazy Pianos, and you'll see a space to write your musical request. Take it up to the pianist, drop a buck or two in the tip jar for good measure, and start to groove when you hear your song.
You may hear The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, Damien Rice, Lion King tunes (admit it — you know them), Van Morrison, and other crowd favorites. Anything goes at this audience-friendly piano bar.
The musicians love crowd involvement, and will frequently ask patrons to sing and dance along to the tunes. Bartenders and wait staff are known to dance (sometimes synchronized) in between helping customers — their excitement is contagious.
The Sunday Brunch features a family-friendly show. Come for lunch or dinner and enjoy the great service, food, and environment at Crazy Pianos. View the menus on their website.
Thursdays from 6-10 p.m., enjoy 2-for-1 draft beer at Crazy Pianos' Happy Hour. Poured from a frozen beer tap, your pint of Heineken, Blue Moon, Amstel Light, or Yuengling will keep you chilled out.
Before 10 p.m., the tunes are slower to compliment the dinner crowd. The tempo speeds up after 10 p.m., where you must be 24 or older to gain access to Crazy Pianos. All ages are allowed in before 10 p.m.
Ask about Crazy Pianos' special packages. They offer a two-hour Cocktail Workshop teaching participants how to prepare and garnish several beverages. You might learn a few flair bartending tricks as well. The Cocktail Workshop is a fun office party, birthday party, or just a good time with friends and costs $20 a person, with a 10-person minimum.
The Miami location opened May of 2009, and it has been stealing the spotlight in CocoWalk ever since.
