Cavas Wine Tasting Room creates a scene

At Cavas Wine Tasting Room, the casual atmosphere appeals to wine enthusiasts and neophytes alike. With more than 80 self-service wines on hand, you're free to taste at your own pace. Over 500 wines are available for purchase, either to take home or to drink there (with a small corkage fee to drink onsite).
With the recently opened South Miami location off Sunset Drive, Cavas Wine Tasting Room now has five establishments in the Miami area: Brickell, South Beach, Sawgrass Mill, Weston and South Miami. Patrons can sample from among 88 different wines, with no commitment to buy.
The staff is eager and friendly in explaining the concept of Cavas. For $2.50, you purchase a plastic credit-card sized card, and then you choose the value to prepay on the card (with minumum amount being $10). From there, you shuffle down the aisle to choose your wine, and, once you do, insert your card. You can choose how much wine goes into your glass, either a taste, a half glass or a full glass (1, 3, or 5 ounces).
Wines vary by price, but a normal taste (1 ounce) will range between $1 and $3, with more expensive wines closer to $10 or more. The majority of available wines are reasonably price. If you like one, fill up your glass! A moderately priced full glass runs about $7, with more refined wines set at higher prices. Keep your card and come back again.
Pair your wine with its perfect complement of meat and/or cheese platters, sandwiches, flatbreads or pinxtos, which are Basque appetizers of small assorted toppings on slices of bread.
Live music jazzes up the scene on some nights, and outdoor and indoor seating provides a relaxing atmosphere. Locations usually offer a free tasting once a week.
Other promotions include Girls Night Out (ladies buy a $30 card and get another $10 added) and Happy Hours (puchase a $25 card and get a $25 card free). Promotion days/hours vary with location, check the wesbite to get details on the location near you.
