Elbo Room: cheap beer and dive bar charm
There's got to be a reason Elbo Room has been around since 1938. This dive bar in Fort Lauderdale Beach has friendly bartenders, a great vibe, and no uppity dress code.
You can feel the Florida breeze inside the bar, and you can people watch while beach-goers bounce along the sand.
The 1960 film "Where the Boys Are" was filmed in Fort Lauderdale, and Elbo Room became more popular as young spring breakers venture to the city to find love, just like in the movies.
You can still find love at Elbo Room -- the bar's website has its own online dating section.
Leave the credit cards at home, because this bar is cash only. You can bring in your cigarettes if you want. Elbo Room has room for smokers and non-smokers.
Sometimes there's a band, sometime's there's a DJ, but there's always beer on tap and a full bar waiting for you. Elbo Room is a great bar for before dinner drinks or after dinner drinks, and your bar tab won't break the bank. Did I mention you can party from the roof?
