Miami International Book Fair: November 8-15

This literary festival starts on Sunday, November 8 with Evenings With... discussions and readings from noted international authors. Admission is $10 for each Evenings With..., and parking is free. The main event is the street fair Friday through Sunday, November 13-15, 2009. Admission is $8 per adult on Saturday and Sunday, and Friday's admission is free.
The 2009 confirmed authors include Margaret Atwood, Barbara Kingsolver, David Kirby, Tao Lin, Jane Allison, Wally Lamb, Al Gore, Ralph Nader and many more. The Fairgoer's Guide online, which will be available in late October, will help you plan your weekend of books.
Book fanatics will likely want to stay all day. Exhibitors include independent booksellers such as Miami's Books and Books, Naples's Wickham Books South and Double A Books of Bradenton, Florida. Publishers, editors, authors, used and new booksellers, readers and writers will convene in Miami in November to mingle, discuss and celebrate their love of reading.
Special programs add flair to each year's celebration. These include Student Literary Encounters, the Antiquarian Annex which features rare books, first editions and manuscripts, and the Ibero-American Authors Program, the fair's complete Spanish program. In Children's Alley the little ones can engage in literary activities, and the Comix Galaxy features comics and graphic novels, the new popular book trend.
International food is a key part of the fun as well. Try foods from all over the world while browsing through books in downtown Miami.
This much celebrated literary event started in 1984, and it continued to grow steadily year by year. Past festival participants include Allen Ginsberg, Anne Rice, Hunter S. Thompson, Tom Wolfe, John Updike, Alice Walker, Julia Child and even President Barack Obama - before his presidency.
