Located about 30 miles south of Miami, the Fruit and Spice Park preserves more than 500 species of fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs and spices from around the globe. On almost 40 acres of lush sub-tropical land, this park exhibits the rich agricultural roots of the Redland community.

The annual Summer Fruit Festival is a great way to get to know the local growers in your community and enjoy a sweet day with friends.

On Saturday and Sunday, June 20–21, taste exotic fruits from local growers and peruse through tasty samples. Sip locally made wines from vendors. Enjoy the festivities between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., rain or shine.

Concessions include fresh-fruit smoothies, fresh fruits and veggies, nursery plants, rare fruit ice cream, chocolate-dipped strawberries and more. Come hungry and leave happy!

Tap your feet to the the Strictly Business Blues Band, performing the entire festival weekend. This country and classic rock band has performed at events all over Miami-Dade and Broward counties, including opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd in March.

Plenty of family friendly activities will keep the kids occupied. The Little Farm Petting Zoo will have lots of animals to pet. Get up close and personal with exotic wildlife at the Everglades Outpost.

Horseshoes, a water-balloon toss and pony rides are fun games for the whole family to enjoy. When the Miami heat is making you sizzle, cool down by participating in the juicy watermelon-eating contest.

The newest farming equipment and tractor models will be on display. Revisit the past while viewing a variety of antique items.

On Saturday, garden enthusiasts be sure to catch the 1 p.m. Lychee & Longan workshop in the auditorium. Learn about propagation, cultivation and grafting techniques. After the demonstration, partake in a question-and-answer session with the expert growers.

If you're interested in other fantastic fruit events, check out the Fruit and Spice Park calendar. The park's normal hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Visit the park for naturalist workshops, botanical tours and exotic fruit tastings.
