Ortanique on the Mile brings out the sun
Executive Chef Cindy Hutson's "Cuisine of the Sun" at Ortanique gives diners a healthy, lighter menu with Caribbean flare. She opened the Ortanique doors in 1999, and she's been serving up delicious creations to Miami ever since.
Open for lunch Monday-Friday 11:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m., Ortanique has a menu of soup, salads ($9-$12), sandwiches ($12-$16), hot appetizers like short ribs and crab cakes ($16), and entrees including Caribbean Seared Ahi Tuna ($20), Churrasco Skirt Steak ($20), Cornish Game Hen ($16), and Penne Pasta ($12).
The dinner menu has lots of tasty options. Salads include Spicy Calamari, Tropical Mango, Oven Roasted Brie, and Lemon Roasted Garlic Ceasar ($9-$13). Appetizers of mussels, pork roast, foie gras, or ceviches will get you pumped up for the main course, price averages about $16, foie gras $28.
Entree favorites are the West Indian Style Bouillabaisse (market price), Black Angus Beef Tenderloin ($44), Pan Sautéed Bahamian Black Grouper ($34), and the Caribbean Ahi Tuna ($33). Other entrees include Cornish game hen, jerked chicken penne pasta, guava salmon, and double pork chops. Servers are friendly and willing to answer any questions. Desserts and after dinner drinks might tempt you to overindulge.
Case of the Mondays? Hit Mojito Madness at Ortanique for half-price mojitos. Every Sunday night a live jazz ensemble woos diners, and Tuesdays Ortanique offers half-price bottles of wine from their Wine Spectator rated list.
Interactive cooking classes are available. For $90, you can learn to make a delicious meal, practice pairing food with the perfect wine, and take home a goodie bag and a recipe booklet of the meal prepared during class. Check the calendar for more details.
Ortanique can accommodate private parties of 25-120. Whether you want a luncheon, dinner party, or cocktail party, you can choose a set menu for your occasion or work with Chef Hutson on creating your own.
Hours are Monday-Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday-Wednesday 6-10 p.m., Thursday-Saturday 6-11 p.m., and Sunday 6-9:30 p.m.
