Mint Leaf Indian Brasserie: an upscale Indian bistro

Both north and south Indian cuisines are represented at Mint Leaf Indian Brasserie.  Enter a relaxed, tastefully decorated atmosphere and unwind to the sights and sounds of Bollywood.

Two plasma screen TVs broadcast colorful Indian music videos that will make you want to move to the music. Dishes prepared in the Tandoor oven are authentically Indian, and marked on the menu.

Mint Leaf chefs come from India as well as the Woodlands restaurant chain in London to whip up creative, memorable and authentic Indian specialties. All menu items are numbered for an easy ordering experience.

Diners are encouraged to eat as tradition dictates — order several different dishes, one meat, one vegetable, one rice —  and put the dishes in the middle of the table to share.  This way everyone can have a taste of everything.  Mint Leaf's menu is a la carte, so choose a few dishes, order some garlic nan, and pass it around the table.

Popular appetizers are the veggie Mint Leaf Tokri Chaat for $9, the Aloo Tikki for $8, and the Tandoori Paneer Tikka for $10. Favorite non-vegetarian appetizers are the Mint Leaf Malai Tikka (a boneless-chicken dish seasoned with mild spices, yoghurt and garli), or the Tanoori Murg Tikka (tandoor roasted boneless chicken marinated in yoghurt, red chilli, and spices.) Both are $13.

The $17 Lasooni Jhinga appetizer is jumbo prawn cooked in the tandoor oven and marinated in garlic, lemon, and crushed red pepper.

Chicken entrees to try are Murg Makahani (boneless chicken tandoor cooked in tomato gravy, butter, and cream),  Murg Korma (tender chicken cooked in mild coconut and almond sauce), and Murg Mint Leaf Jalfrezi (boneless chicken cooked in a tomato sauce with onions and bell peppers). All $15-$17.

If you like lamb, the $17 Karahi Lamb is a must — cubes of deliciously spiced lamb sauteed in onions, tomatos, and bell peppers. Lentil lovers be sure to try #53, Dal Makhani, black lentils with cream and carmelized onions, $14.

Dosas and Uthappams, favorites of southern India, are priced from $13-$16. These delicious dosas are thin crepes made from ground lentils and rice, fermented overnight, and then filled with masala lamb, spicy chicken, potatoes, onions, and spices. The Mixed Uthappam, $14, is a rice and lentil pizza with toppings of chopped onions, tomato, coconut, green chilli, and coriander.

Beverages at Mint Leaf include beer, wine, freshly squeezed juices, and homemade Indian drinks.

With the lunch menu, served between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., your $13-$19 will go a long way.  You'll receive a choice of either chicken, lamb, prawn, or vegetarian curry, and you'll also get two vegetable dishes, lentil stew, a Hara Bara salad, rice, Papad and Chutney, Raita, and Chappati (if you want nan instead of Chappati add $1).
