For those who don't want the latest rage, and get enough spa atmosphere at the spa, the art of hair design is taken to a new level by JB Veltman. One of Coconut Grove's best kept secrets, JB offers a serene and private hair design studio. JB has traveled the world as a Glemby designated "high fashion" stylist and instructor for couture runway shows and editorial layouts in publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Elle. JB is equally accomplished at cutting and color. While some colorists specialize in one color, JB has an artist's sensibility and an engineer's precision making any color he does seem natural and attractive. The philosophy of a tranquil, professional studio that offers extraordinary privacy and personalized attention has made the Patrick Garelle Salon the preferred salon of Miami's elite. JB is a Brazilian Keratin Treatment educator.

I have now been a client of JB's for over 2 years so this is not a "first impression" but a true review from a regular customer. Having moved from LA I have had my share of "hair experiences"--good and bad, big salons and intimate boutiques. Arriving in Miami I expected to be searching for many months before finding someone I could trust with my hair (coloring and cut). I considered other local stylists recommended by friends here in Miami but found JB via Citysearch (the internet???--yes!) and have never left. For my first experience at this "private hair design studio" I expected the visit to be a bit tense and edgy as you might expect from such a description. Far from it! The studio is relaxed and intimate and very welcoming. The tone is set by JB and his very capable assistant Kara who keep the action flowing without melodrama. My return visits to the studio have convinced me that JB and Kara could handle any "hair emergency" for any client and keep the atmosphere low-key. My cuts and coloring have been great! Nothing complex in coloring but done so that I don't have to worry about an awkward "painted" hairline or "bleeding color" for the next 2 days when I work out or just get out and about in the Miami humidity. (Trust me--I have had this experience before in LA!) For over 2 years JB and Kara have been a regular entry in my calendar. Now when I have Miami friends asking me where I get my hair done--! I tell them "JB Veltman", of course!

Pros: attentive to client, punctual service, relaxed atmosphere

Cons: parking can be tough if you don't want to walk

I agree with the others on this site. JB truly takes the time to listen to what you want, and is focused on giving you what YOU want and not what a stylist thinks you should have. When I went the first time I had very badly damaged hair that was breaking off like crazy from all the color damage. I had home colored my hair to the point that it was unrecognizable on any color scale. I actually had a man come up to me in the street in a foreign country and ask me "What color is your hair?!?" That's bad. Just one visit and almost all of the nasty brassiness is gone and I"m getting my blonde back. One of the nice things is that JB focuses first on getting your hair healthy, so he won't do a bunch of things all at once that will add damage even if he could make more money by doing it. Healthy hair first. Yayyy! Otherwise you wouldn't be a return customer because you wouldn't have hair. It may take 2-3 visits to get my color and condition back, but I'm well on the way now, and have another appt. this week. I relied on the posts on this site, and they were right. But do be on time - its sooo nice that here in Miami someone is right on time and not Miami time. :)

Pros: Takes time to listen, special focus on color correction

Cons: None

I was looking for a new stylist and came across JB Veltman. My first impression was lasting... he took the time to listen to what I needed and I got the results JB understands his clients and truly is a fabulous artist! My hair has never looked better. I have very difficult hair, and JB is the only one I would trust with it! So glad I found him. His assistant Kara is wonderful too!!! I really enjoy going in to see them both. :)
