A Multifaceted State Park

Our family enjoys going to Bill Baggs State Park to lay on the beach, soak up the sun, swim in the ocean and fish. A walk up the 109 steps of the historic lighthouse for the fabulous view is usually a must, too. The lighthouse, built in 1825 and reconstructed in 1846, is the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. Bicycles, ocean kayaks, beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rental. If we decide not to pack a picnic, we will usually enjoy the fresh, delicious seafood at Boaters Grill overlooking No Name Harbor. This is also a great place for birthday parties, as the park has large picnic pavillions available. Overnight boat camping is allowed in No Name Harbor, and a primitive campsite is available for organized youth groups. Entrance fees vary depending on whether you drive a car in, are by yourself or walk in.
