Although Burghardt has always created visual art throughout his life, artistic endeavors primary concentrated on architecture. He is an architect for DMJM Harris/ AECOM and teaches architectural studio at Broward Community College . What was once suppressed because of the architectural education, painting has become a major part in his life. Burghardt has exhibited in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale , Tampa  and Coconut Grove, Florida.
