Artist Bio
Alex was born in1969 in New York City, son of a Cuban father and aBolivian mother, he spent his growing years in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ever sincehe was a kid, Alex had a fascination with cartoons and coloring books.He would fill them in short periods of time, never leaving a trace of crayonover the sleek, black lines. While in school, his notebooks were always filled withall sorts of fantastic characters that his imagination created.While studying fine arts in college, Alex managed to publish a monthlyComic strip “TLJ” in one of the local newspapers. The socio-politicalStrip had its following, but was cancelled after some complaints of itsharsh criticism of the government issues. After graduating, Alex spentthe next 11 years working for several multi-national companies in Marketing,before dedicating completely to his art in 2004. He then formed Crazy Pencil ArtsStudio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as he further developed his greeting card line“Luv Handlz” while experimenting with acrylics. His work is a mixof neo-cubism and figurative abstraction, with intense brush strokes and “crayon” colorsthat gives shape to cartoon-like figures, very much like the coloring books of old.The artist expresses that the canvas allows him to release his inner child and infuseit with spontaneity and energy. His inspiration comes from artistsJoan Miro, Peter Max, Pablo Picasso and Romero Britto.His works quickly became popular in the area and are sold in Art FusionGallery in Miami, Agora Gallery in NYC and his illustrations at Images.Com.Some of his works are decorating the Bristol Condo in San Juan, the Avenue Loftsin Fort Lauderdale and soon, Massimo Bizzochi’s boutique in New York City’s trendyMeatpacking District. He is currently working with celebrity designer Nani Vinkenin the design and decoration of children’s bedrooms.
