The Bar Method: Ballet bar sweat sessions
The Bar Method is a targeted, body sculpting and core strengthening exercise program that combines elements of yoga, pilates, strength training and ballet into a bar and floor-based routine. The slow and precise movements will have you grimacing and working hard, but the results are oh, so worth it!
Celebrity Bar Method proponents include Drew Barrymore, Denise Richards, Eve and Kelly Osbourne. There are currently 30 locations nationwide and a studio is set to debut in South Miami on October 16, 2010.
The South Miami studio is located just a few blocks from Sunset place, and four to five classes will be offered daily.
Throughout the one-hour class session, calorie blasting interval training is mixed in with isometric, muscle shaping exercises. The core strength training exercises require a tremendous amount of muscle control, but don’t worry -- the instructors will help you modify moves until you can tackle the full exercise.
All Bar Method classes are low impact and done to music. Generally, classes follow a standard format. First, you begin with a simple warm-up to get your heart rate up and muscles warm. Then, you’ll work the upper body with free weights, push-ups and stretches using the ballet bar. Next, you’ll do some challenging exercises for the lower body in various standing positions, while also using the bar for support. The last 10-15 minutes of each class are devoted to the abdominals and the glutes, in a quick succession of floor exercises.
When done routinely and accompanied by a healthy diet, the Bar Method will help sculpt arms, flatten abdominals and contribute to a more graceful posture.
HelloMetro Tip: Come check out the new studio in South Miami. They are currently offering new client promotions; get one month of unlimited classes for $135.
