Ransom Everglades School Reviews

I love this school. It has an incredible environment in which to learn, explore and grow. It is challenging, but if it becomes too much, there is always someone, or something there to help.

Im not sure when the person who wrote that most students 'if not all of them, lack creativity' actually went to RE, but I am a currently a senior and i definitely disagree. At least half the grade participates in the visual arts program. The art history courses are considered to be some of the best in the school, and 4 levels of studio art, ceramics, film studies, photography, drama, chorus, and band are offered. There is also an arts league run by students and two student-run art publications. The library, visual arts gallery, and front office are always covered in student artwork.

Sending our son here was the best thing we have done for him. This school ROCKS!!! The level of education he is receiving and the caring attitude of the staff is amazing. As for the reviews stating it is all about college, well it is a prep school! Miami has loads of private 'country club' schools which may suit a child who does not function well under stress. This school is fast paced and competitive, but we love it and will be continuing in the upper school.

An excellent school with a wonderful faculty dedicated and committed to all of its amazing students. Ransom Everglades Middle School really tries to help meet the need of all of its financial aid students. My daughter loves the challenge and she feels extremely fortunate that she attends a school with a great tradition of honor and excellence!

My daughter loves this school. But, there is a lot of pressure to be the best at whatever they do. I would prefer that the school be more supportive of the kids trying new things (acad./sports/theater) rather than relentlessly pushing them forward on a predetermined treadmill.

Ransom is an awesome school. I love the people and never want it to stop. It is the best school I have ever seen in south Florida

My three children have graduated from Ransom Everglades and earned an education superior to my New England private school education. The teachers are caring and the opportunities are plentiful from a wide range of sports to the arts to social service.

I have just started at Ransom Everglades, and honestly it is extremely stressful and demanding, but rewarding and educational. I am having a wonderful time at RE, and the social enviorment is great. I'm glad to be a part of Ransom Everglades.

I think that sending our son to Ransom has been one of the best decisions we have made. It is not for every child but has been greaat for our son. I have read some of the other reviews about the stress level and I firmly believe that you have a choice. As a family we have opted out of some of the craziness, we encourage our sone to participate in activities outside of the school arena. We feel that this balances him. We have set our expectations to good effort grades (and resulting B's and A's)and not an obsessive persuit of all A's. We insist all our kids have reasonable bedtimes because kids need sleep as well report cards

This school is said to be a school of excellence and they claim that all the students are the best. But they are not. They are all brain washed individuals who do not have a mind of their own. Also most of them, if not all of them, lack creativity. All they care about is getting good grades, they dont care whether they are learning or not. they just want to get into a good college. It also pampers students, not preparing them for the outside world. People just go there to say they went there and because they know that if colleges see they went to ransom they might have a good chance of getting in the college. Worst years of my life.

My daughter has experienced some tuff times at this school. She has always been an excellent student, but Ransom has hurt her mentality. This school is excessively competitive, stressful, and college driven. Every parent meeting is about college. The extracurricular activities offered are fantastic and numerous. The stress may not be worth it.

Ransom Everglades provided six of the best years of my young life. The school prepared me for college socially and academically, making the transition from high school to university easy. The education I received from Ransom Everglades was the finest any student could ever want.

I loved this school. I went there and graduated with most of my friends from elementary school. I remember my parents always told me that i was a lucky kid for going to such a great school. That is so true. Ransom is the best thing my parents ever did for me. Thanks mom and Dad!

I graduated from Ransom Everglades, and I have to say it was the best thing my parents ever did for me. The education given to me by my many overqualified teachers has been a key stone in my success. I was taught to think critically and was also under immense pressure, which at times worried my parents, but later on made college very easy because of the academic discipline and the time management I had learned early on in high school. The amazing part of RE is that not only did it provide me with a truly excellent education but it involved me in the community at a very young age. I am very proud to have graduated from RE. It sends its students to amazing colleges throughout the world. Florida is lucky to have such a school.

This school maybe one of the oldest but definitely has a beautiful outlook. This school offers my child so many different choices that other schools would not even compare to. There is everything from Robotics to Drama to even golf. And the curriculum is outstanding as well. My child will recieve so many opportunities when she finishes graduating from RE. Thanks RE for all your help!

My daughter just graduated RE Class of 2007. Her RE education, in my opinion, will be one of the greatest gift she will ever receive. RE is not only committed to developing an intellectually and physically sound student but its dedication to humanitarian activities, social justice, community service and advocacy across all religious boundaries is what makes the school outstanding and unique . Tuition is pricey but worth every cent and the education is anything but elitist. I can truly appreciate the education she has received when I realize that on campus she is an average 18 year old RE student but off campus her schooling distinguishes her not only from other teenagers but even from those who are years older.

Ransom is a small gem in Miami Dade County. It offers a top notch academic program, athletics, intense teacher involvement and interest, and a wonderful sense of community service. Besides those notable aspects, the social scene is one that is conducive to healthy development coupled with academic success. Woefully it is small and admission is selective, so there is a high level of stress regarding getting in, but its worth the effort and the cost of tuition once your'e there.

Top notch. Small classes, great parent involvement the point that they will keep helping the school after their kids leave. The child can choose daily classes of drama, music or chorus. Art classes also available. Offers all types of sports including golf and sailing. My son and my two nieces go there, and my daughter is applying for next year. Over 20 clubs to choose from, including Robotics, ice cream and a movie and rocketry. Great involvement with community and community services. Just the best!

Both myself and children found the curriculum and culture restrictive and rather punitive. Curriculum and pedogogy seemed filled with endless minutia and rewarding memorization rather than critical thinking. Excessively strict and did not have a grasp of the concepts of gifted education and appreciation of different learning styles. Teachers did not seem to know how to evaluate children in a holistic manner and rewarded compliance over creativity, conformity in curriculum over acceleration and independent thinking. The school seems to have benefited by the exodus of the upper middle class from the overcrowdwed public schools in Dade County but the middle school educational product is more hype than substance. In a city with more choice of schools would not stand out.
