South Broward High School Reviews

The scores are well, but the emphasis on the FCAT is too much that it stresses the students out.

I believe we need more voluteers at the school if possible, with the budget cuts we could certainly use more supervision in all angles especially after school is out. I really think we need to recruit more adults and if we have to screen them, go right ahead, I love this school we just need to direct it in the right angles.

School has changed substantially when compared with 4 years ago when my daughter used to go there. The Principal s commitment and dedication along with all the staff have made a difference in the school performance; academically and general behavior of the students.

You want your kid to grow up right, then that's our job as parents. In the mean time, send them to this excellent school where involvment is something that comes to your child. And the school community is together as one.

This school really has a family oriented feel to it. I love it here.

My three children have been in South Broward. Each of them are in the top 10 percentile. When there is a problem, administration is easily contacted. Teachers respond when asked questions or if a student has a problem. I am very impressed with the school.

This school is terrible. The kids are flat out rude... The school is huge and spaced out. Not safe at all... You can easily walk in and off campus during the day. Way overly populated. Not a good ,'learning enviroment.'

I agree with the last parent reply about school being what you make of it. I took the APs, and participated in the extracurriculars, and those were what got me through. While the academics could be better, the only parents who really have anything to complain about are the parents of children in regular classes. The children in those classes do not want to learn, and it's the way they were brought up that is to blame-not the teachers. As you move up on the academic ladder the quality of academic programs, the availability and access to extracurriculars, and the level of parental involvement increases because these students want it to-something you just can't get from lower level students who just come to school because the government forces them to. And that's the sad truth. South Broward is a great school if you make it out to be. Student Class of 2006

I am a parent of four boys, three have already graduated from SBHS and my last is a sophmore. I believe that school is what you make it and what you take from it. My sons all became involved with extracurricurlar activities, this helped both socially and academically. There are enough clubs and sports to meet the interests of many different types of students. The academic programs ranges from low level learning to above average. So all levels of students can achieve success. There is a parent involvement group but sadly only a handful of people attend regularly. For those who do attend a wealth of information is given along with a chance to talk with the principle and other staff members.Overall we have been pleased with SBHS.When we do have a concern with anything we make sure we contact the right person to get the problem solved.

Pretty good school for this area. Definitely better if your child is in honors or AP classes.

I was not impressed at all by this school. Some teachers try, but the primary give no effort whatsoever, and let many students fall through the cracks. I would not recommend this school to any parent that actually wants their child to succeed in life.

My daughter just transferred to S. Browards after attending a private school for 10 years. We were certainly nervous and not sure we were doing the right thing. Well after my first meeting with he administrators and guidance counselors I cannot tell you how impressed we were. In all our years at private school no one had ever talked about what my child was passionate about and looking to help her find those things. The help in making her comfortable and secure was unbelievable and after 5 months we are really impressed with the curriculum. She comes home with stories of the debate club, and drama club. The things she herself feared have fallen by the wayside and she is really shining. Her friends are A students that thrive on achievement and look to help their friends shine. Dr. Pomerantz should be really proud!

I'm a junior at South Broward and I have attended it since 9th grade. I love this school and show much pride for it. But there are some adjustments that need to be made. The teachers need to find a better way of teaching FCAT, too many students aren't doing a good job. The overall of the school is great but I don't want to graduate from a D school so I hope the upcoming class can raise us to a B school.
