Coral Way K-8 Center Reviews

My two kids attended CW and it was the best instruction ever. One is already in college and the second one is a senior, their success in school started because of the great foundations received in CW.

There is a great mix of class sizes at CWE. Our daughter is in 3rd grade gifted and there are 32 students in the class. Our youngest is in 'kinder' and there are less than 20 in class. Obviously we can not speak for the entire school, but the class size does not seem to affect them. The attention paid by the teachers and level of learning thus far is excellent. Being it a bi-lingual school (first in the nation), the child has a double challenge, but it is brought in a very well balanced package, which is very well managed by the staff and teachers. Overall I am somewhat discourage with the bilingual program. I feel it's taking time from our children to learn more grammar and math in english than in spanish. 60% english it is not suffient time. They should have it at least 80%. Although I am bilingual myself, I see that my son is having difficulties w/both languages at the same time.

Although I was thrilled about the idea that my child learn another language, I am devastated the lack of it has counted against my child. My child failed math (taught completely in Spanish), despite my constant communication with the school and extra tutoring. Tests/projects/assignments are not posted or notified to parents and they are never returned. How can we review mistakes made? We are very disappointed.

My child has attended the school since 3rd grade and I am disappointed to say that the overall quality of the school seems to be suffering. The afterschool program is very disorganized and unsafe. On several occasions they have 'lost' my child, not having any idea where he was, unacceptable. Parents have a hard time getting information in a timely manner. The school seems overcrowded and overwhelmed by the vo;lume of students it has. On a good note, the majority of the teachers are excellent and dedicated and are the only reason I accept the administrative shortcomings and do not remove my child.

My daughter just finished 1st grade and this school has been great. the teachers were majorly involved. However, the only thing that I did not understand was when a student is out, they can not make up the work. but over all a great school. including the office staff.

Excellent school. Fantastic well prepared teachers. Friendly staff. The international bilingual program is outstanding, as well as the field trips. Excellent parent/teacher communication. My older son is in 4th grade and my younger in Kindergarden under special education (excellent service from OT, teachers).

Coral way is an average school for me. I believe if your lucky to be blessed with a good teacher than that is all you can rely on. I can say its a safe school and some of the teachers are great but the interaction with parents is miserable. If your a working parent it is difficult to be aware of what is going on in the school you would have to rely on your child to inform you, because notices of projects or school activities are never sent home.

This an excellent school which has proven to improve their academics every year. Their scores are getting better and better. The parent involvement is not as high as other schools but the teachers get to know their students very well. It's a pretty big school which can overwhelm younger kids. The intl program is excellent.

Excellent bilingual school. The teachers are all very professional and take their jobs very serious.

I think that the bilingual character of Coral Way is its best advantage. Nowadays, it's very important such an education. Don't forget. English and Spanish are the two most spoken lenguages all over the world. Our children will be ready for the future with this short of education. And the teachers and the rest of the staff are working really hard for them.

Academic programs were excellent, especially the gifted programs, that are completely bilingual. The school played an important part in making my children bilingual and biliterate. It was actually a bit top-heavy, in that i would have preferred more hands-on activities. The teachers were very dedicated. The principal was also exttremely dedicated, and knew alot of the children by name.

My son has attended this school for two years and it has been a great improvement for him compared to his previous school. His teachers have been very helpful in his advances. He loves this school.

A traditional school with competent teachers. A lot of kids! Very nice and inviting atmosphere, although it seems overcrowded

Coral Way is a great school. It is a Bilingual school and I believe that learning two languages it is and advantage to children now a days. It also has the SIPA program for advance Spanish speakers wich is also and advatage to kids. I believe that my son is going to benefit from this school which he loves.

I have had my children in this school for 5 years (ranging from my 13 year old-which is no longer there) to my 1st grader. They have excellent teachers which are very dedicated and they have a new principal on board which is fantastic.

I was very happy when my daughters first started in this school. Since then, my view of the school has changed. I had a child in first grade last year which was not taught to read or write. Despite my efforts and my request to the school Principal, my child was left in the first grade with two teachers who were planning on retiring that year. Subsecuently, my daughter has struggled through second grade. I am now having to take my daughter twice a week to tutoring because of her lack of instruction in the first grade.

As a special education major I currently am going through teacher training courses that review the latest educational trends and research. What I have observed at Coral Way Elementary school is that it actually applies the latest in education theories inside it classroom doors. The facullty and staff are quite friendly, and overall the students look content walking through the halls of this beautiful school

I have my child attending this school. My child is in the 5th grade and his grades are okay. My child attended Coral Way in the 3rd grade and he didn't know anything in reading/writing in the spanish language and I was really please in how my child learned the Spanish language. My child's grade(s)in his other subject were fine. But the only thing that bothers me as a parent that my child needed more help in his important subject reading/math and the teacher(s) didn't want to give him help. I spoke to the teacher(s) and all they told me that the parents needed to help the child and help them every evening. I thought that was so shocking when I was told this by a teacher. I thank god that I did what I had to do for my child to give him the opportunity that his self-esteem can be high as it should be and that he can make it through his school years with his parents help. All what the school members really was interested that the students all attended school so the school can have a great school score as an 'A' school. It's a shame that our children gets help in subject(s) when is best for the teachers/school members.

I, have two kids in this school..and only have very high things about this Institution. Most of the teachers are bi-lingual and teach in English and Spanish, in every school room are both teachers, which I, think is great. There is also a gifted program that have three bi-lingual teachers. I, saw kids learn Spanish and English with great facility. My kids both read and write English and Spanish. There is also a pilot program to learn Spanish after school hours 'International study Program' and at end of program 5Th grade the Spain Education Goverment, send an invitation to students to go to Spain schools for 2 weeks.

This school is very oriented toward families that do not speak English but it is the school that is in our area. Spanish is not my child's first language and it is affecting her grades. Three of the classes are in Spanish. If you do not know Spanish you are at a disadvantage and should consider another school.

This school is the worst school ever! They treat our child like they were criminals! And most of the kids lower other kids self-esteem!
