Miami Shores Elementary School Reviews

My son has been there for one year. Overall, I find it to be ok, not great. His teacher; however, was fantastic. She made all the difference for us the first year. Unfortunately, I found her to be the only shining star. The school is badly in need of renovation. The current administration is autocratic and needs a big shake up starting at the top. Lots of changes need to be made. Aftercare is dismal. Instructors need training. There are no scheduled activities like soccer or music. The media center is closed immediately after school. It should open for a couple more hours so students and their parents (especially the ones who do not have computers at home) can do extra curricular reading etc. The home work is boring. My son never received a project for the entire year! It is not without hope. We need concerned parents!

Great School - Great Education - Great Location - Great Teachers - Smart Students - Keep up the good work!!!

I'm very happy so far about the quality of education my first child has received. I am a little concerned that her former teacher in the gifted program was basically run out of the education system by overzealous parents and an unsupportive administration. As for my younger daughter who started Kindergarten this year, I'd have to give the school credit for taking steps to put her in a new classroom that would better serve her academic needs. That tells me that their paying attention and I like that.

Teachers are great but facilities are disgusting.

Miami Shores Elementary is a satisfactory school. It would probably be better if not for the politics that envelop that school; certain people within the administration are unapproachable and intimidating, while others are duplicitous. The system there leave a lot to be desired.

Miami Shores Elementary was a great school. It really prepared me for what was ahead. I was involved in many clubs. I also enjoyed reading when before I had hated it. In the end of the school year before I left I became the first student Council president the school had had. I also had the top reading scores for the year. In the end I had learned alot and was prepared when I entered an excelent school called Belen Jesuit Prepatory School. I still remember to this day how encouraging the teachers were and how helpful they were! I recommend Miami Shores Elementary to all young students!

Generally a good school, particularly if your child is in the Academic Excellence or Gifted tracks. Our children have attended the school since 1998 (pre-K - since discontinued). Parental involvement is above average, particularly in the middle-upper-middle-class areas of Miami Shores, Biscayne Park and El Portal. Miami Shores is a coveted community with high involvement overall, and the community is starting a municipal Charter Middle and High School with a strong science and college prep track (requires sixth grade Latin!)The bucolic surroundings (school near golf course) deceive. Student body is quite diverse in ethnic background and income - 15-18 percent Caucasian, perhaps 20-22 percent-Hispanic, narrow majority black, of whom more than half are of Caribbean background. Overall, atmosphere is safe and friendly, and the school is orderly and well run as rowdy public schools go. Principal - there since 1995- can be autocratic but generally has done a good job.

The most beautiful school in all of South Florida! The teachers are terrific, the principal accessible, a very good environment for elementary school age kids.

I feel that Miami Shores Elementary is a great school with alot of new and exciting things happening. My daughter who just finished 5th grade and going onto Middle School, recieved a great education and is well prepared for Middle School.
