Miami Springs Elementary School Reviews

One Star.Overcrowded and a very bad learning experience.

Definite improvement has begun at the school but still a looong way to go in regaining control of a handful of teachers who have had their misguided way in the past with our previous principals lack of control and leadership! The aftercare program really needs a lot of work too. Looking forward to more improvements! The

There has been such a breath of fresh air since the past administrator left. With the exception of a few the staff appears to be in a more comfortable place. The music department is doing wonder things and once again is flurishing after the lack of attention with the previous administration. The PTA is still stong and will continue to do all they can and what is in the best interest of the students and the school. My hat off to the PTA volunteers, no one appreciates the time and effort that is put in freely.

The last two years were horrible. But we are here to see brighter days. We have a new wonderful Principal, Ms. Hutchings! She knows what she is doing, is open for new suggestions, likes parent imput, stands by her staff and has a complete open door policy. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is happy. As far as the furniture and boxes, this is the mess left by the last Principal. The custodial staff has been working day and night and has found new homes for these boxes and what-nots. The school is much better today and will only get better under the Principal, Ms. Hutchings and our equally as great Assistant Principal, Ms. Simon.

During the past two years, I may not have agreed with everything the principal, Ms. Fernandez was implementing. Apparently, she knew what she was doing and I regret that she is not here to continue. I am not sure if this move was in the best interest of the whole school, time will tell. One thing I can say is that the school never opened in such disarray. I was appalled to see the school in such deplorable conditions on the first day of school when I took my children. Furniture in the hallways and stacked in the after-care office area. It was not out of sight for those of us who have our school in after care. The verdict is still out on this new principal, so far, it does not look promising. The teachers aren't so sure themselves.

Very sad, the school atmosphere/instruction is plummeting&disappointing. Apparently the teachers are unhappy w the principal but the students are the ones paying the high price of their dissatisfaction. Only a few very enthusiastic teachers seem to still be giving their best.

The teachers at the school are wonderful and given the present enviroment are doing a great job. The current lack of leadership continues to be of great concern. Luckily the parents that are involved at the school refuse to allow it to totally fall apart. Through all the termoil the programs continue only with the hard work of the teachers. We have an excellent art and music department. Unfortunately, under the current leadership the schools grading has fallen. We can only hope that with the needed changes we will once again be the pride of Miami Springs. We would hate to loose any of our wonderful teachers...

This school has enormous potential with several strong, dedicated, and veteran teachers combined with several young willing staff who joined the school in the recent years. The problem is lack of leadership and focus on educating the students rather than test prep like the endless FCAT practice that consumed this year's entire focus. What happened to classical education and the realization that children learn quickly and easily when the subject matter is interesting, challenging, and multisensory rather than just drills and worksheets for a test that will be obsoleted soon. With new leadership this school has the teaching staff to challenge the students and prepare them for the competitive future college courses and careers. Assistant Principal Wilson is leaving the school as of summer 2006 and hopefully a strong, perceptive, and motivating AP comes in to harness the potential and get this school back on track!

I am happy with this school. My son and daughter have great teachers and ample opportunities to learn different things. The environment is friendly and many parents are involved. The gifted program is especially good. There are lots of after school programs such as tutoring, music, and tae kwon do. My daughter has discovered a passion for the violin through the strings program. I would definately recommend this school.

After several attempt to have things changed back to the way they were in this school, I've come to the conclusion that the Principal is just not getting the job done.

Since the new principal took over (C. Fernandez); the school has taken a nose-dive. The staff is less friendly, and there was an unnecessary turn-over with the teaching staff. C. Fernandez is pushing parents away from being involved in their childs education A negative attitude towards parents leaves much to be desired. ....thinking about changing to Springview Elementary.

Overall a very good school with strong roots in community. But way too much focus on practice tests for the FCAT rather than giving new material, and preparing kids with science, technology and higher math which is the future. The main emphasis is on language arts and test prep. The kids for the most part come from middle class families and are all ready pretty prepared for the FCAT as a result unlike more underpriviledged schools. There are some terrific veteran teachers and Principal Megias will surely be missed. The Assistant Principal Mrs. Wilson doesn't seem to take much value in suggestions or request from the either the teachers or parents and goes with her own plan. This leaves little flexibility for the teachers in the classroom.

Excellent school in miami springs. Has gotten A in the last 3 years and very clean as compared to springview. Teachers are well trained and I recommend it hightly.

This school has a great staff and a great learning environment. It has been an A+ school for several years now. It is overall an excellent school.

This is a great school with great leadership. My son has been at this school for three years and loves it.

The teachers and staff are remarkable with the students. They love to teach and it shows. I am so pleased that my child has the opportunity to be in such a good learning and nurturing environment.
